two poems translated

'All is laughter, all is dust, all is nothing,
for all that is cometh from unreason.' --Glycon X.125 in the Greek Anthology (tr Paten)

Returning to this from my blog. How would it look in Lojban?

CMILYKAI JE PULCYKAI FA RODA
.IJE TRAJYTOLSMU
.INI'IBO RO ZASTI
CAPU SE KRASI LO KALSA

(My English version: Laughter, dust, & nothingness are all/ we know, since from Unreason we did fall.)

'This body,
grown fragile, floating,
a reed cut from its roots...
if a stream would ask me
to follow, I'd go, I think.'

--Ono no Komachi (tr Hirshfield & Aratani)

FRILI SE PORPI
XADNI JEKE SE KATNA
GENJA .I FULTA
.I GANAI PA RI'ECMA
CU RETSKU MI GI KANKLA

In my English:

Spun glass, my body
hovers, cut off at the roots;
if any trickle
were to ask me to follow
i'd be the last to decline.

untranslatable

This poem.

Looking at 'winding streets' for the latter, DARGU although KLAJI is closer in meaning; for the former 'curve' KRUVI & 'spiral' (my preference) SARLU. So: SARLU DARGU...

The dictionary suggests SNOCANCI ('slow-vanish') for 'fade' although i think the effect is not visible change so much as a contrast to a previous state; hence 'more weak' ZMADU RUBLE which has several forms (ZMA MAU and RUB BLE). Then--RUBZMA LUNRA to continue the pattern of double assonance.

Finally, 'door' can only be VORME, and the form of 'you' i want is DONPRE:

SARLU DARGU .! RUBZMA LUNRA .I DONPRE VORME
which has the succinctness of the original, & at least a slight sense of the wordplay...

quotes from Algazel

(via)

8-bit Roundabout

"I have poked into every dark recess, I have made an assault on every problem, I have plunged into every abyss..." --Deliverance from Error

"But if their metaphysical theories had been as cogent and definite as their arithmetical knowledge is, they would not have differed among themselves on metaphysical questions, as they do not differ on the arithmetical." --introduction to Incoherence of the Incoherent

"It were no marvel if the students of the realities underlying the terminology were puzzled by the multiplicity of these terms, and imagined a corresponding multiplicity of ideas. But he to whom the realities beneath the terms are disclosed makes the ideas primary and the terms secondary: while inferior minds take the opposite course." --The Science of Symbolism (from Niche of Lights)

"But if any one of them stands up in a state of genuine ecstasy all the rest should stand up with him, and if any one's turban fall off the others should also lay their turbans down." --Alchemy of Happiness, V.

The Throne Verse

2:255 Allah! There is no God save Him, the Alive, the Eternal. Neither slumber nor sleep overtaketh Him. Unto Him belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is inn the earth. Who is he that intercedeth with Him save by His leave? He knoweth that which is in front of them and that which is behind them, while they encompass nothing of this knowledge save what He will. His throne includes the heavens and the earth, and He is never weary of preserving them. He is the Sublime, the Tremendous.

2.256 Allah!

    "Frost on a summer day:
all I leave behind is water
    that has washed my brush."

"Life is an ever-rolling wheel
And every day is the right one.
He who recites poems at his death
Adds frost to snow."
